Steven Flores is a 2022-2023 Teach Plus Illinois Affinity Group Facilitator and a 9th and 10th grade special education teacher at Thornton Fractional North in Calumet City. He focuses on orienting students to the acts of reading and writing to allow students to make connections with the world around them. He led a workshop at the Association for Humanist Sociology Conference, in Havana, Cuba, reviewing the literature on best practices for combating deficiency narratives and damage-centered research. He earned an MS in education with a concentration in Special Education, and is currently enrolled in course work to earn a degree in Curriculum & Instruction with a concentration in ESL/Bilingual Education and an LBS II Curriculum Adaptation Specialist.
