Angela Flounory is a 2024-2025 Teach Plus Michigan Policy Fellow who teaches middle school social studies in the Detroit Public Schools Community District. She serves as the coach for the elementary and middle school chess teams and the advisor for the school student council. Angela was a member of the DPSCD Social Studies Think Tank committee, which assisted in reconstructing a curriculum that is culturally responsive and addresses issues of social Justice. She is a Vocal Justice Fellow, a National Endowment of Humanities Fellow, and a member of the Detroit Federation of Teachers. Angela graduated with a BA in social and labor management from Antioch College and obtained her MA in African and African American studies from Temple University. She holds a master’s certificate in urban education from Davenport University and has completed her post-graduate coursework in African and African American Studies with a cognate in history.
