Emily Garrison is a 2024-2025 Teach Plus Senior Writing Fellow and an English teacher at Bentonville West High School in Centerton, Arkansas. Emily is in her ninth year in education. Emily is an alumna of the Teach Plus Arkansas Policy Fellowship where she advocated for universal free school meals, the right to read diverse literature, and teacher salary increases in her state. She also mentored other fellows in the development of their own editorials and contributed to a research policy memo regarding the retention of a diverse educator workforce in Arkansas. Emily has held leadership positions as a department chair, guiding coalition member, school backpack and food pantry director, an equity team member in conjunction with Lead Higher/Equal Opportunity Schools, and served on a district curriculum team. She has earned a BSE in English with honors from Arkansas State University, an MSE in education theory and practice, and an EdS in educational leadership. Emily’s op-eds have been published in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and the Arkansas Advocate.
