Elise Ghitman is a 2024-2025 Teach Plus California Emergent Bilingual Change Agent. She is a 10th grade English language arts (ELA) and English language development (ELD) teacher at Del Mar High School in San Jose, California. Elise has taught 7th and 8th ELA and social studies, serving as a member of the Site Leadership Team, Union Site Rep, and English Learner Task Force. She was chosen for a Modern Classrooms Project Mentorship Program Scholarship (2023) and Social Justice Scholarship (2023) from the University of San Francisco, and published a translation of Maha Vial’s poetry in Latin American Literature Today with Dr. Sebastian Figueroa. Elise has a BA in comparative world literature from Smith College and is pursuing her MAT with credentials in English, social studies, and Bilingual, Cross-Cultural, Language, and Academic Development (BCLAD) at the University of San Francisco.
