Nikysha D. Gilliam is a 2022-2023 Teach Plus California Policy Fellow, an English and English language development teacher, and instructional coach at Susan Miller Dorsey Senior High School in Los Angeles, California. She prides herself on connecting with students and facilitating their engagement in extracurricular activities. Nikysha is entering her 25th year in education as an elementary, middle school, and now high school teacher. She was named Los Angeles Unified School District (2019), Los Angeles County Teacher of the Year (2019), and a finalist for California State Teacher of the Year (2020). Nikysha served as an elementary literacy coach for three years and middle school magnet coordinator for four years. She earned her BA. in English from the University of Michigan, an MA in Educational Administration with an administrative credential from California State University, Northridge, and an EdD in Educational Leadership for Social Justice from Loyola Marymount University.
