Katie Hayes is a 2024-2025 Teach Plus Mississippi Policy Fellow and is a K-5 interventionist at Barack H. Obama Magnet Elementary School in Jackson. She also serves as the new teacher mentor to support teachers in providing the best learning experience possible for all of their students. Katie has taught various grades between pre-k through fifth grade and has served as a grade-level lead teacher, Literacy Committee Chair, ELA Coach, and more. She was named in the top 8 for the KALD Distinguished Teachers Award for private schools in Kuwait (2013-14); and was named Obama Magnet Elementary School’s Teacher of the Year (2023-24). She is National Board Certified and serves as a candidate support mentor for the SEED project. She earned her BS in early childhood education from the University of the Ozarks and an MEd in educational leadership from The American College of Education which led to an administrative credential in Mississippi.
