Heather Fitzgerald is a 2018-19 Teach Plus California Policy Fellow. Heather teaches 4th grade math and science at Hickory Elementary School in Torrance, California. Heather is the mathematics teacher lead at her school and creates professional development sessions and lesson studies to ensure teachers are well-equipped to facilitate effective, student-centered math explorations. She previously taught in the Newport-Mesa, Laguna Beach, Irvine, and Redondo Beach Unified School Districts in both general and Gifted and Talented education. Over the past four years, she has secured nearly $10,000 in STEAM-related grants for her classroom and school. She received her Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and Bachelor of Arts in Dance from the University of California, Irvine and earned a Common Core Mathematics Leadership Certificate and Common Core Mathematics Coaching Certificate from Loyola Marymount University.
