Michelle Hesse is a 2023-2024 Teach Plus California Emergent Bilingual Change Agent. Michelle is a 7th grade Academic Language Development (ALD) and 8th grade history social science teacher, English language coordinator, associated student body director, and teacher induction mentor at Knox Middle School in San Diego, California. She previously was a Colonial Williamsburg fellow and a James Madison Civics Fellow. Michelle was named Knox Middle School Teacher of the Year. She is a member of the Instructional Leadership Team (ILT) which creates the Professional Development Plan at her school. Michelle began her career teaching 7th, 8th, 10th, and 11th grades as an English, academic language development, and history social science teacher. She earned her BA in Latin American history from San Diego State University. She earned her single subject teaching credential in social science and English from San Diego State University and National University, respectively. She is working on her MA in history from San Diego State University with an emphasis on border studies.
