Kyle Kemppainen is a 2024-2025 Teach Plus Michigan Policy Fellow, an 8th-grade teacher, and a member of the social studies leadership team at Bothwell Middle School in Marquette. He collaborates with Northern Michigan University to create rigorous lesson plans focusing on primary sources emphasizing critical information literacy. He previously worked as a PBIS site coordinator and has taken additional training in teaching a balanced approach to reading specializing in Orton-Gillingham methods. Kyle facilitates culturally responsive teaching in his classroom based on Sharroky Hollie’s methods. He has experience in both urban and rural settings working with diverse and low-income student populations. Kyle earned his BA degree in elementary education and history through Ripon College.
