DeShawna Lacy is a 2022-2023 Indianapolis Equity Change Agent, 5th grade teacher, D3 instructional coach, and math specialist, at Winding Ridge Elementary in Indianapolis, Indiana. She focuses on helping teachers create learning spaces where all scholars can develop their critical thinking skills, and build on their awareness and understanding of their power. She has also been an advisor lead and a social emotional learning specialist. DeShawna was named Outstanding Future Educator by IUPUI (2020). DeShawna began her career in education as an instructional assistant, and quickly moved into teaching and coordinating alternative instructional settings for grades 1-6. She is currently partnering with professors from IUPUI to create a culturally relevant math and science curriculum. She earned her BS in Psychology from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU), attended Argosy University Atlanta for Clinical Psychology, and earned an MS in Urban Elementary Education from Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI).
