Dwayne Lacy is a 2023-24 Teach Plus Texas 2nd Year Policy Fellow. Dwayne is an 8th grade U.S. history teacher at Beckendorff Junior High School. Helping all students reach their highest potential is one of his greatest passions. Mr. Lacy has held such positions as social studies department chair (West Briar Middle School) and teacher leader for the Teach Like A Champion program. Dwayne was named West Briar Middle School’s Teacher of the Year (2014-2015). Dwayne also helped the 8th grade social studies department achieve its highest percentage of mastery on the social studies STAAR exams (48%) in the school’s history. Dwayne began his teaching career at West Briar Middle School in 2005. He taught 7th and 8th grade History during those years while also teaching 6th Grade World Cultures during several summer school sessions. He earned a BA in Radio, Television and Film from Sam Houston State University and an MEd in Teacher Leadership from Grand Canyon University.
