Kalua Lauber is a 2024-2025 Teach Plus Texas Policy Fellow who teaches 11th grade AP Language & Composition, advanced English II and regular English II 10th grade at Taft High School in San Antonio. A 20-year educator, Kalua is a National Board Certified Teacher who is ESL certified and College Board certified. She is a published fiction writer and serves as a mentor to aspiring writers in the Independent Study Program. She is a U.S. Holocaust Museum Fellow who conducts professional developments that help teachers introduce the Holocaust into their curriculum. She is an active member of the Honor Fraternity, Kappa Delta Pi. She became a teacher after serving as a volunteer catechist at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Culver City, California to at-risk youth for the Life Teen program. She holds a BA in speech/theater from Louisiana State University and an MAETED of secondary education from the University of Phoenix.
