Jessica Lozano is a 2024-2025 Illinois Policy Fellow and special education teacher at Stevenson Elementary in Bloomington, Illinois. She focuses on emotional development and behavior intervention, helping to coordinate and deliver trauma-informed care training. Jessica received a Bloomington Rotary Golden Apple Award for teaching and community engagement (2021-2022) and was a Golden Apple Accelerators Scholarship Recipient (2022-2023). She began her professional life in legal/regulatory roles in Chicago and was later drawn to special education as a mid-career change. She has since taught various grades between kindergarten and 5th. Jessica earned a BA in foreign languages and Latin American studies from Eastern Illinois University, ABA Paralegal Studies Certificate from Roosevelt University, MPA from the University of Illinois’ Springfield’s School of Public Administration and Policy, LBS1 endorsement from the University of Illinois in Springfield, and full Special Education PEL from Blackburn College’s Post-Baccalaureate Accelerated Teaching Program.
