Katia Necoechea Madriz is a 2024-2025 Teach Plus Colorado Policy Fellow. She is a 3rd grade English language arts (ELA) and English language development (ELD) teacher, Grade Level Chair, and Fellow Advisor at Rocky Mountain Prep Fletcher in Aurora, Colorado. Katia focuses on ensuring all students, including multilingual learners, have rigorous ELA lessons that make them more confident readers, writers, and critical thinkers. Her hope is to foster a love of reading amongst her students. Katia was a Fulbright English Language Assistant in Madrid, Spain, where she taught English and Model United Nations to high school students. Katia continued her teaching career in Aurora as a 2022 Teach for America corps member. She earned a double BA in education sciences and psychology from the University of California, Irvine, her teaching license from ASPIRE to Teach at the University of Colorado Denver, and is currently working on her MA in curriculum and instruction from CU Denver.
