Smitha Mathen is a 2024-2025 Teach Plus Illinois Affinity Group Facilitator, and science and special education teacher at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. College Preparatory High School in Chicago. She focuses on differentiating instruction and meeting the needs of all students in the classroom. Smitha is a Google Level 1 and 2 certified educator, in addition to being an Apple Teacher. She uses her expertise in technology to help teachers support the diverse needs of students. Smitha has been a Professional Personnel Leadership Committee (PPLC) member, department chair of science, and member of the graduation and social committees. She earned her BS in secondary education from St. John’s University and Learning Behavior Specialist 1 endorsement through Jacqueline B. Vaughn Graduate School for Teacher Leadership.
