Erica Ramirez is a 2024-2025 Teach Plus California Emergent Bilingual Change Agent. She is a high school English teacher from South Central Los Angeles. With more than 20 years of experience, Erica has led professional development workshops on such topics as classroom curriculum, teaching strategies, and communication with families. In 2009, upon returning to Los Angeles, she began co-writing a small school plan for the Los Angeles Unified School District to establish a school with a career focus in social work and health advocacy. In 2012, the Community Health Advocates School (CHAS) opened its doors to the students of South Central Los Angeles. Erica seeks opportunities to continue to improve her teaching practice, leadership skills, and support for her school and students. In the last five years, her focus has been primarily on supporting newcomer English learner students and their families.
