Frank Rivera is a 2023-2024 Teach Plus Texas Senior Policy Fellow. Frank is a middle and high school English language arts teacher at Chaparral Star Academy in Austin, Texas. He focuses on an education of understanding artistic purpose, its cultural impact, and the legacy of literary contributions to encourage life-long curiosity among his students. He was district chair for the Heart of Texas, a community of speech and debate coaches in Central Texas. Frank was named the 2020 National Speech and Debate Chair of the Year and has coached champions at the middle, high school, and collegiate level. He was awarded the 2019 Heart of Texas Communicator of the Year; and was himself a collegiate national champion of public speaking. Frank began his career in entertainment journalism and editing for The Austin Chronicle, KXAN, and NowAustin. He earned his BS in communication studies from the University of Texas and an MA in English from Western Kentucky University.
