Dr. Manuel Rustin is a 2022-2023 Teach Plus California Policy Fellow and high school social science teacher at John Muir High School Early College Magnet in Pasadena, California. He focuses on the development of two landmark courses, the district’s new junior-level ethnic studies course and an inaugural introduction to education course aimed at cultivating the next generation of teachers. Manuel is a recipient of the Pasadena Rotary Club’s Teachers of Excellence Award (2018) and the Pasadena NAACP Ruby McKnight Educator Award (2012). In addition to teaching, Manuel is vice chair of the California Department of Education’s Instructional Quality Commission and a member of EdTust-West’s Educator Advisory Council. He earned his BA in History with a minor in Education Studies at UCLA, his MEd in Teaching and Curriculum at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and his Doctorate in educational leadership at the UCLA School of Education and Information Studies.
