Manuel Rustin

Dr. Manuel Rustin is a 2024-2025 Teach Plus California Educator Diversity Action Network Member. He teaches ethnic studies and American government at John Muir High School Early College Magnet in Pasadena, California. Manuel serves as his school’s history department chair and helps facilitate district-wide professional development in ethnic studies. He served as chair of the California Department of Education’s Instructional Quality Commission, where he helped facilitate the development of the statewide Ethnic Studies Model Curriculum. Manuel is a recipient of the Pasadena Rotary Club’s Teachers of Excellence Award (2018), University of California, Los Angeles, (UCLA) Outstanding EdD Dissertation Award (2017), Milken Educator Award (2012), and Pasadena National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Education Award (2012). He earned an MEd at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and doctorate in educational leadership at UCLA.
