Joshua Salas is a 2023-2024 Teach Plus California Senior Policy Fellow who teaches 12th grade special education at Alliance Renee & Meyer Luskin Academy High School in Los Angeles, California. Driven by the belief that education is a right, not a privilege, Josh strives to meet his students’ needs and work with colleagues and systems to uplift students’ holistic well-being. Alongside his role, he serves as the instructional lead for special education and as a co-advisor for the associated student body on his campus. Continuing his policy and community engagement for education equity, he sits on Ed-Trust West’s Educator Advisory Council and is now an aspiring principal fellow in the diversity in leadership. Josh earned a BA in sociology and global studies from UC Santa Barbara, an MA in sociology from San Diego State University, and an MEd in special education from Loyola Marymount University.
