Jillian Salazar is a 2023-2024 Teach Plus California Policy Fellow. Jillian is a first grade teacher, student council lead, and mentor at Tierrasanta Elementary in San Diego, California. She prioritizes the concepts of integrated multi-tiered systems of support (iMTSS) in education, regularly incorporates STEAM lessons that challenge students to think critically about real-life situations, and focuses on creating cultural awareness on campus by creating student-directed events, which promote representation and inclusion in curriculum across all grades. Jillian is the lead teacher for implementation of social emotional lessons across the elementary campus while also leading the student council. Jillian was named Colorado Springs Teacher of the Week; Teacher of the Year at Tierrasanta Elementary; and San Diego Unified Elementary Teacher of the Year finalist. Jillian is a member of San Diego Education Association and the National Education Association. She earned her BA in liberal studies and a teaching credential from San Diego State University.
