Dr. Tony Schiera is a 2025 Teach Plus National Teacher Policy Cabinet member and teaches high school English at Ware Shoals High School in Ware Shoals, South Carolina. He began his teaching career 25 years ago as an English teacher in South Korea. Recently, he was named 2024-2025 Greenwood 51 School District 51 Teacher of the Year.
In addition to teaching, he serves as the yearbook advisor at Ware Shoals High School. He has also previously taught at university levels throughout the US and overseas.
Dr. Schiera earned his BA in English from the University of New Mexico, an MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from the School for International Training in Vermont, and a PhD in Composition and Rhetoric from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He received his public school license in 2006 through an alternative certification route.
