Lesley Sluyter is a 2024-2025 Teach Plus California Policy Fellow. She is a high school English teacher and speech and debate coach at Torrance High School in Torrance, California. Lesley is the English department chair and has taught English Language Development (ELD), and 9th, 10th, and 12th grade English and public speaking. Lesley was recognized as an Outstanding Teacher (2024) by the Torrance High School Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA). She has been an active coach in the Western Bay Forensics League for the last 20 years and has served as both Vice-President of Debate and Co-Vice President of Speech Events. Lesley earned her BA in English literature from Grand Canyon University and her MEd in education, with special emphasis in arts education and single-subject teaching credential from University of LaVerne.
