Josie Whelan is a 2022-2023 Michigan Collaborative Teacher Leader and a 1st-3rd grade teacher within the Montessori program at Palmer Park Preparatory Academy in Detroit, Michigan. She has taught elementary school within Detroit for four years and one year abroad in Albania. Josie volunteers regularly with Detroit Horse Power and was a board fellow with the nonprofit, Local Circles, in 2021. She has primarily taught students in early elementary but also a University of Michigan undergraduate class while working towards her Master’s. Josie was a 2019 National Science Foundation RET fellow and 2020 Dow Sustainability Fellow, both at the University of Michigan. Josie earned her BS in Environmental Studies and her teaching certificate from the University of North Carolina at Asheville. She earned an MS in Behavior, Education and Communication as well as an MA in Educational Studies, both from the University of Michigan.
