Katherine Daphne Whitington is a 2022-2023 Teach Plus Illinois Senior Policy Fellow who teaches 12th-grade English and AP Capstone Seminar at Percy L. Julian High School, where she is also the Service-Learning Coach, the Spoken-Word Poetry Coach, and a sponsor of the Student Voice Committee. She is currently the schoolwide instructional coordinator and the magnet cluster lead teacher for the school’s new Fine and Performing Arts Magnet Program, one of only two such programs awarded by CPS in 2020 through a grant process that she coordinated. She has frequently presented nationally and internationally on arts integration and culturally-responsive pedagogy. She is a 2019 Illinois Teacher of the Year Finalist, a 2007 Milken National Educator Award Winner, and a 2006 Suave CPS High School Teacher of the Year Award winner. She graduated from University of Pennsylvania with a BA in Italian and Philosophy, received her MSED from Northwestern University, and completed a PhD at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
