As the Development Manager at Teach Plus, Ashanti (he/him) serves as the primary grant writer for a defined portfolio of national projects and regional expansion efforts, develops and organizes resources to strengthen the organization’s ability to pursue new relationships, and manages all development operations responsibilities and grant administration systems, working in partnership with other departments.
For the past two years, Ashanti was a Grant Writer at Elevate, which provides full-service grant support for nonprofits. Prior to that, he worked as a Client Services Specialist at Covington & Burling, where he managed conferences and events for the clients and lawyers of a multinational law firm. Ashanti earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and Minor in Music from Howard University in Washington, D.C.
Outside of work he enjoys volunteering with DC Public Library’s DC Punk Archive and MAGFest, Inc.’s Jam Clinic, and plays the saxophone and flute at jam sessions around the DC/Maryland/Virginia area. Ashanti is proud to have built a career working with so many interesting, diverse people, and listening to and sharing their stories. He is excited to continue that work by supporting the teachers of Teach Plus.
