Bill (he/him) is the Teach Plus Illinois Policy Director, where he has empowered teacher leaders to help pass the Literacy and Justice for All Act to strengthen reading instruction for every student in Illinois, and also to secure funding to offer the Educators Rising career development program in every Illinois high school. Bill is a National Board Certified Teacher who taught English, History, and Spanish for 13 years before joining Teach Plus. In 2015, he was named Kankakee county’s “Innovator in Education” after his class project led to an appearance on This American Life and the Late Show with David Letterman. Bill has also served on Illinois’ school funding Professional Review Panel, the Illinois Educator Preparation and Licensure Board, and as vice president of the Illinois Association of Teachers of English. In his free time, he is an avid outdoorsman who has hiked the 2200-mile Appalachian Trail. Bill earned his BA in English Education with honors from Illinois State University and completed his MA in Educational Administration at Governors State University.
