Jennie Vazquez-Garcia joins Teach Plus as Education Leadership Coach, supporting the Network for School Improvement (NSI) program to develop and coach Teacher Leaders as they lead change in their schools.
As a Chicago native, Jennie (she/her/ella) has been a part of Chicago Public Schools for twenty-four years, including as a student, bilingual and dual language teacher, bilingual coordinator, district leader, and now, as a mom of two daughters in CPS. Jennie is passionate about creating safe spaces where students’ voices and identities are at the center. She believes that children are creative with fresh perspectives and should be included in conversations that ultimately affect them, so her mission is to embed more student voice into conversations and decisions at the school and district level–not simply in the classroom.
Jennie graduated from the University of Chicago with a BA in Law, Letters, and Society as well as a Masters in Teaching from the University of Chicago’s Urban Teacher Education Program. She earned her MEd in Instructional Leadership from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She is a Chicago Surge Fellow (CHI23). Jennie’s greatest joy is spending time with her family and being in nature.
