Prior to joining Teach Plus, Kristen (she/her) spent 8 years working in low-income high schools on Chicago’s south side. After graduating from the University of Chicago with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and a minor in Visual Arts, she taught Chemistry at ACE Tech for three years, while simultaneously coaching volleyball and softball, chairing the science department and school-wide Culture Committee and pursuing a Master’s degree in Science Education from the Illinois Institute of Technology. After three years at ACE, Kristen taught biology at EPIC Academy for two years while pursuing a Master’s in Educational Administration from Dominican University. She moved from the classroom to administration at EPIC, serving as the Development Manager, where her work spanned building out new programs, developing donor relationships, grant-writing, and fundraising. All of her work in this role centered around finding and creating opportunities for EPIC students both inside and outside of the classroom.
