As Vice President of Growth and Impact at Teach Plus, Dan Scarver leads Teach Plus’s expansion efforts in new states, oversees the strategy to scale promising models focused on placing teachers at the forefront of change, and supports inquiry fellowships of teachers in emerging regions. By leveraging innovative approaches and promising models, he identifies opportunities to design and amplify state and federal policies and practices that positively impact teachers and students.
Dan is a former teacher and education practitioner who has taught and designed school-based programming in the Mississippi Delta and Boston Public Schools. Dan believes policy should empower, not inhibit. Before joining Teach Plus, Dan led national and local programs and initiatives focused on civic engagement, education policy, government, and strategic partnerships for Teach For America, City Year, EdRedesign at the Harvard Graduate of Education, and FUSE Corps. Dan joined Teach Plus after launching a growth strategy at Education First Consulting.
Dan has served on local and national boards and committees, including the Boston Mayor’s Spark Boston Civic Engagement Council, the New Leaders Council, the Independent Sector Public Policy Committee, and the Thomas M. Menino YMCA Advisory Board. Dan was a 2018-19 Resident Fellow of Harvard University’s Administrative Fellowship Program.
Dan earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from Fisk University and his master’s degree in education policy and management from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Dan lives in Boston and enjoys visiting museums and hiking trails in New England.
