Teach Plus Applauds Supreme Court Ruling on DACA; Our Work is Not Yet Done

WASHINGTON, D.C.―Teach Plus President and CEO Roberto J. Rodríguez issued the following statement on the Supreme Court decision to block the administration’s attempt to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program:

“We applaud today’s Supreme Court ruling rejecting President Donald Trump’s attempt to end the DACA program. The Court’s ruling paves the way for over 700,000 Dreamers to continue to pursue their education as well as contribute to the fabric of our nation, without fear and threat of deportation by the Trump Administration. This victory is a testament to the voices of our DACA recipients who have remained steadfast in their fight, and to the movement of thousands of young people, educators, and community leaders who have stood in solidarity with them.

Teach Plus has consistently called for the continuation of DACA. Our teacher leaders have used their voices to advocate on behalf of DACA students; they have not wavered in their commitment to build safe, welcoming environments for immigrant students in their classrooms each day, even during this uncertain time.  Through their actions, educators remind us of our calling to value and celebrate the dignity, background, and culture of every young person― especially our immigrant and refugee youth.

Our work is not yet done.  We must continue in our fight against injustice in all its forms, including the injustice of continued attacks on immigrant children and youth. We must continue to press for the permanent protection of our DACA recipients, including a permanent pathway to citizenship for the thousands of Dreamers that contribute to and enrich our country.”
