The guilty verdict in the Ahmaud Arbery murder trial is a small but important step in our reckoning with injustice

Washington, D.C.―Teach Plus Interim CEO Lindsay Sobel today issued the following statement about the verdict in the trial of the killing of Ahmaud Arbery.

“Today’s verdict is a small but important step in our national reckoning with injustice―past and present―that persists across our country and is a daily blight on communities of color. When justice was served with the guilty verdict in the trial of the Arbery murder defendants, it sent a message to all those affected by racial violence and oppression about the humanity and dignity of every individual in our society.

This is a message that Teach Plus and Teach Plus teacher leaders carry forth in their work with their students and families, as they center diversity and inclusivity in their teaching and advance equity for students. At Teach Plus, we dedicate ourselves to developing teacher leaders who are facilitators of knowledge, social agents of change, and builders of our democracy. We will continue to stand with them to fight against racism and injustice and to foster equity and fairness, through their teaching and through their daily examples of leadership.”
