Anita Thawani Bucio is a 2019-20 Teach Plus Illinois Policy Fellow. Anita teaches English and AVID at Evanston Township High School and mentors new teachers as an instructional coach and professional development facilitator. She has served as a member of the district’s curriculum writing committee, has participated in several school and district initiatives related to educational equity and transformative educational practices, and is a member of her school’s leadership team. Anita was a recipient of the 2014 Inspirational Teacher Award from Western Illinois University and received the Uplift Community High School Teacher Excellence recognition in 2009. Anita holds a BS in Liberal Arts and Sciences from the University of Illinois at Chicago, an MEd in Secondary English Education from DePaul University, and a PhD in Curriculum Studies with honorary distinction from DePaul University.
