Aja Currey is a 2024-2026 Teach Plus New Mexico Senior Policy Fellow and principal at Rio Gallinas Charter School in Las Vegas, New Mexico. She focuses on elevating teacher leaders and creating a team spirit of high expectations and connections. Aja was a special education teacher for 10 years, and is an alumna of the Teach Plus New Mexico Policy Fellowship and Teach Plus National Research Fellowship. Aja participated in the Teach for America (TFA) Rural School Leaders Cohort (2023-2024) and is on the board of the Kiwanis group running K-Kids in her community. She earned BAs in early childhood multicultural education and special education from New Mexico Highlands University (NMHU), and a master’s in educational leadership from NMHU.
