Mercedes Harvey-Flowers is a 2023-2024 Teach Plus Senior Writing Fellow who teaches U.S. history and Advanced Placement research at Crestwood High School in Dearborn Heights, Michigan. Mercedes is the social studies department chair, the school advisor for Key Club, and is a 2022-2023 Michigan Collaborative Senior Teacher Leader alumna. Mercedes is passionate about building and using relationships as a catalyst for authentic student centered learning experiences. She earned her MA in Small Urban High Schools, her EdS in Educational Leadership with a concentration in Curriculum and Instruction, and her EdD from the University of Michigan-Flint. Her dissertation, “Secondary Educators’ Socioemotional Well-being Throughout The COVID-19 Pandemic: A Narrative Inquiry,” focused on the lived experiences of educators in dealing with their socioemotional well-being. Mercedes’ work has been published in What’s the Plus.
