John Yourse (Lt Col, USAF. Ret) is a 2019-20 Teach Plus Texas DFW Policy Fellow. John teaches college readiness and humanities at Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas ISD, preparing students to navigate scholastic and life challenges. He recently left military service as Strategic Communications Director and Consultant Team Supervisor for Minority Affairs at the Pentagon. John has assisted in the first-year implementation of the Dallas County Promise program as the campus college career readiness sponsor. He served in the military for 28 years, with assignments as combat aviator, United Nations military observer, National Guard Bureau Inspector General for equal opportunity policy compliance, public affairs director and assistant deputy director at the Pentagon working in diversity policy, operations and outreach plans, and implementation. John holds a Bachelors degree from Canisius College and a Master’s degree in Education Administration from Prairie View A&M University.
