Afia Lewis is a 2023-2024 Teach Plus Pennsylvania Senior Policy Fellow. Afia is a 6th grade mathematics teacher at Ardmore Avenue Elementary School in Lansdowne, Pennsylvania. She is a member of the William Penn School District Strategic Plan Task Force and is a former head teacher supporting grades K-6. She previously taught various grades pre-K-6in her 22-year career. Afia was named a Fox 29 Top Teacher; received Pennsylvania House of Representatives recognition; and was named to the Temple University Athletics Hall of Fame. Afia is the Pennsylvania State Education Association South Eastern Region Education Justice Representative, Delaware County Black Caucus Education Chair, on the Teach Plus CEO Cabinet, and on the National Educators Association Leaders for Just schools. Afia earned her BS degree in elementary education from Temple University and her MEd in education from Central Michigan University.
