Jerry Michel is a 2023-2024 Teach Plus Illinois Policy Fellow, Instructional Coach and AVID Site Coordinator at Chute Middle School in Evanston, Illinois. He serves as the chair for Chute’s School Improvement Team, leading efforts to develop school-wide goals that align with student needs and district priorities. Jerry began his teaching career as a special education teacher’s assistant and is a former elementary school principal, middle school assistant principal, fifth grade classroom teacher, and teacher leader for both literacy and technology implementation. In addition to teaching, Jerry has served on the board of directors as treasurer of the Educational Book and Media Association, and is currently Region 3 Director for Operation BBQ Relief, a disaster relief non-profit organization. He earned his BA in English from Western Carolina University, an MA in elementary education from University of South Florida, and both teaching and administrative credentials from National Louis University. Jerry received his PhD in curriculum and instruction from Loyola University-Chicago.
