Mikaela Newell is a 2018-19 Teach Plus Commonwealth Teaching Policy Fellow. Mikaela teaches kindergarten at the Pierce Elementary School in Brookline, Massachusetts. She is the school’s K-2 Literacy Coach, trained through The Center for Reading Recovery and Literacy Collaborative at Lesley University. Mikaela has also taught preschool and 1st grade. She is a member of the school’s child study team and the district’s social studies curriculum renewal team. She has received a grant to study Early Childhood Education in Reggio Emilia, Italy. Mikaela graduated from The University of Massachusetts at Amherst with a BA in English and received an MEd in Early Childhood Education from Lesley University.
