Orion Smith is a 2019-20 Teach Plus DFW Senior Policy Fellow. Orion teaches AP Government, AP Macroeconomics, and AP Computer Science at Arlington Heights High School, a traditional comprehensive public school in Fort Worth ISD, where he coordinates the teacher leadership team. Through a process initiated and led by the teacher leadership team, Arlington Heights HS chose the further development of teacher leadership as its strategic direction for 2018-2021. In the spring of 2018, Orion was named a finalist for the District Teacher of the Year by Fort Worth ISD. Through the Teach Plus DFW Policy Fellowship, in 2019 Orion testified before committees of the Texas Senate on major education reform legislation that eventually passed. Orion graduated from Michigan State University with a BS in Interdisciplinary Social Sciences and completed Michigan State University’s graduate Teacher Preparation program.
