Tony Porter is a 2023-2024 Teach Plus Mississippi Policy Fellow. He is an 8th-grade teacher at Blackburn Middle School in Jackson, Mississippi where he focuses on students’ academic growth and proficiency by running the student council. He dives more into students’ success by mentoring in after-school activities and programs such as reconstruction. He has volunteered and mentored at multiple schools in Jackson, Mississippi. Tony was named Blackburn Middle School Teacher of the Year. Tony earned his BA in Science from Jackson State University and is obtaining his MS in elementary education from Jackson State University.
