Joaquín R. Sánchez is a 2024-2026 Teach Plus New Mexico Policy Fellow, and high school math teacher and 10th grade advisor at South Valley Academy (SVA) in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He started at Robert F. Kennedy Charter High School in 2019 and moved to SVA in 2021. Joaquin teaches geometry and geometry honors to 9th and 10th graders, focusing on math as a language, math identity, and learning communities. The core value undergirding these principles is to make and learn from mistakes. He has worked as a grade-level leader and parent involvement coordinator. Before teaching, Joaquin worked as a professional community organizer and as a civil and structural engineer. He has a BS in civil engineering and MS in structural engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
