Shana Gaines is a 2019-20 Teach Plus Texas Policy Fellow. Shana teaches K-6 music at Mark Twain Elementary and Richardson Terrace Elementary in Richardson ISD. She co-directs after-school choruses on both campuses and serves on the Mark Twain school climate committee. Shana has previously served as a special education teacher in Richardson ISD and frequently modeled strategies for resource teachers in the district. Shana has also taught Algebra I, geometry, and consumer math and spearheaded the first flipped courses at The Winston School in Dallas. She currently serves as a part-time director of the Wilshire Wind Symphony at Wilshire Baptist Church in Dallas. Shana is a Fujitsu Trailblazer Semifinalist (2019) and Outstanding Elementary Music Teacher for the Berkner Feeder Pattern (2018-19). She holds a BM in Church Music from Union University, an MM in Church Music with an emphasis in Music Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and an MEd in School Leadership from Lamar University.
