Sura Perez is a 2019-20 Teach Plus Texas DFW Policy Fellow. Sura teaches 3rd grade bilingual reading and social studies education at Martin Weiss Elementary School of Leadership, where she sponsors the Destination Imagination STEM-centered club and coordinates the seven habits of effective leadership house system. Sura has served as part of the campus instructional leadership team and has provided professional development to teachers on campus and at the district level. Internationally, she provided professional development to over 200 educators and administrators in Guatemala. In DISD, Sura has been selected as a DTR (Distinguished Teacher Review) teacher and currently serves as a member of the district’s DTR ambassador program. She graduated from The University of Texas at Arlington with a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood-6th Grade Bilingual Education and from Southern Methodist University with a masters degree in bilingual education and a masters in leadership and policy studies.
