Michael Wood is a 2024-2026 Teach Plus New Mexico Policy Fellow and 9-12 music composition and digital arts teacher at East Mountain High School in Sandia Park, New Mexico. He is Holistic Department Leader and focuses on building relationships and social emotional learning. Michael participated in the New Mexico Teacher Leader Network and was Educational Sponsor for Rotary Del Sol of Rotary International. In his 16 years at East Mountain High School, he has won the Teacher of The Year award multiple times, as well as Albuquerque Magazine’s “Above and Beyond Teacher Award” (2019). Michael began his teaching career as an educational assistant and long-term substitute guitar instructor at Alma d’ Arte Charter School in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He received his teaching license through the New Mexico Public Education’s Online Portfolio for Alternative Licensure and BA in performing arts specializing in classical guitar from the University of New Mexico.
