Hjamil Martinez-Vazquez

As Texas Policy Program Manager, Hjamil will manage the Texas Teacher Leadership Fellowship and support teachers’ development as equity advocates. Working as a credible broker between teachers, Texas Education Agency Staff, and policymakers, he will work collaboratively with the Texas Policy Team to leverage partnerships, lay the groundwork for teacher voice, and create opportunities for teacher leaders to influence critical issues, programs, and initiatives across the state.

Hjamil is a former educator with Fort Worth ISD and, most recently, with Crowley ISD, where he spent over seven years as an elementary school teacher and Instructional Support Specialist. He has a Master Teacher Designation from the Texas Education Agency and served as a Classroom Demonstration Teacher in Crowley, where he also served in the Bilingual Program Review, wrote the Curriculum for the Dual Language Program, and served as Dual Language Campus Lead, mentoring teachers. As a former Teach Plus fellow with the Texas Policy Fellowship, Ready to Lead Fellowship, and the National Research Fellowship, he advocated for the preparation, recruitment, and retention of Teachers of Color and equity across all sectors of the educational arena.

He has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Puerto Rico, a Master of Arts from the Evangelical Seminary of Puerto Rico, and a Master in Theology and Doctor of Philosophy from the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago.
