Tracy Edwards

Odyssey Charter Schools

Tracy Edwards is a 2020-2021 Teach Plus Nevada Senior Policy Fellow and a 20-year veteran educator. She teaches at Odyssey Charter Schools in Las Vegas where she also develops curriculum for ELA. Tracy has been a classroom teacher, instructional coach, and department chair. She has also served as lead Curriculum Designer and Professional Development Specialist for DePaul University/Digital Youth Network in Chicago, where she assisted in the design and implementation of an online writing curriculum for elementary schools throughout the city. Tracy is a board member at the UNCF Las Vegas Chapter and Codeswitch Las Vegas. Tracy earned her EdD from Pepperdine University in Learning Technologies.

Stacey Dallas Johnston

S. Dallas Johnston is a 2020-2021 Teach Plus Nevada Senior Policy Fellow and 20-year veteran teacher who teaches at Mission High School in Las Vegas, Nevada. Together with her students and peers she reads, writes, and discusses literature, composition and creative writing while continuing to develop her own craft. Dallas is a fellow of the Southern Nevada Writing Project, a former U.S. Dept. of Education Teaching Ambassador Fellow, and a InspirED Global Fellow, who has worked at the state and national levels to enhance and help shape education policy. Dallas holds a BS in English Education from UNLV and a MEd in Curriculum and Instruction from Regis University, Denver.

Jen Loescher is a 2020-2021 Teach Plus Nevada Senior Policy Fellow who has worked within the Clark County School District for 20 years. In 2018, she joined the Southern Nevada Regional Professional Development Program team as a Middle School Math Project Facilitator. She previously worked at Sedway Middle School as a Strategist/Coach and Data Coordinator and has taught 6th grade math and 2nd grade. She is an alumna of the Public Education Foundation’s Teacher Leadership Academy and the Tuva Fellowship. Jen earned a BS in Elementary Education and an MS in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Nevada Las Vegas.

Dawrin Mota is a 2020-2021 Teach Plus Nevada Senior Policy Fellow and a math instructional coach at Elizondo Elementary School in Las Vegas. Dawrin also teaches a remedial math class at the College of Southern Nevada Adult Literacy and Language program. Prior to teaching, Dawrin served eight years in the U.S. Army reserve and active duty and has worked as a private investigator in the public and private sector. He earned a BA in Multidisciplinary Studies from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and his MEd in Elementary School Education from Grand Canyon University.

Deanne Hicks headshot

Deanne Hicks is a 2020-2021 Teach Plus Nevada Senior Policy Fellow and a 3rd grade teacher at a rural elementary school on the Pyramid Lake Paiute Reservation in Wadsworth, Nevada. Deanne has taught all grade levels K-6, served as a literacy coach for five years, and coached high school volleyball. Deanne is a National Board Certified teacher in Literacy. Deanne has collaborated with the Nevada Regional Professional Development Programs to design and implement a state-wide collaborative book study. As a Teach Plus Fellow, Deanne was a member of the Teach Plus NEPF working group which partnered with the Teachers and Leaders Council to successfully pass Nevada SB475 during the 2019 legislative session. She previously collaborated with colleagues to institute one of the first Title I pre-K programs in northeastern Nevada. Deanne earned her BS in Education from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and an MEd from Lesley College.

Jeannie Penrod is a 2020-2021 Teach Plus Nevada Senior Policy Fellow who is currently in her 15th year of teaching in Clark County School District. She teaches English at Southwest Career and Technical Academy and has taught Special Education, ELL, and Freshman Studies.  Jeannie serves on her campus's National Equity Project and is a fellow for the InspirED Global Fellowship. She has served as a mentor to new teachers and on project-based learning committees. Jeannie holds a BS in Communications with a Public Relations Emphasis from Cal State University Bakersfield, and a MEd in Special Education from University of Nevada Las Vegas.

L. Juliana Urtubey is a 2020-2021 Teach Plus Nevada Senior Policy Fellow and the 2020-2021 Nevada State Teacher of the Year. She is a hybrid teacher at Kermit R. Booker Elementary where she serves as an instructional strategist and co-teacher for the Pre-K and Special Education departments. Previously, she taught Resource at Crestwood Elementary. Juliana is a National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Teacher Fellow, a National Board Certified Teacher (ECYA Exceptional Needs Specialist, 2018), a member of the NVDE Superintendent Teacher Advisory Cabinet, and more. She is a 2018 Roger’s Foundation Heart of Education Winner, a recipient of the 2019 Chicanos Por La Causa Esperanza Latina Teaching Award, and a recipient of the Hispanic Education Association of Nevada Teacher of the Year. She holds a BS and MS in Bilingual General and Special Elementary Education.
