Houston-area Teachers:

You are invited to apply for the Teach Plus Texas Houston Policy Fellowship, a highly selective leadership opportunity for outstanding Houston-area teachers seeking to leverage their classroom experience and expertise to inform education policy decisions.

What do Teach Plus Texas Houston Policy Fellows do?

Houston Policy Fellows participate in a year-long cohort experience (with the option for a second year) that equips them to bridge the gap between teachers, key stakeholders, and policymakers in Houston. As a Houston Policy Fellow, you will join a larger movement of teacher leadership while developing education policy knowledge and advocacy skills that will serve you throughout the program year and beyond. As part of the Houston Policy Fellowship experience, Teach Plus will provide opportunities for you to research challenges, propose policy solutions, testify, write op-eds, and meet with district and state-level decision-makers.

How does the Teach Plus Texas Houston Policy Fellowship work?

Teach Plus Texas recruits and selects Houston Policy Fellows from Houston-area districts to participate in a cohort experience. During the program year, fellows meet once per month to develop education policy and advocacy skills, work with staff to amplify teacher voice, and influence policymakers based on their classroom experience and expertise. Additionally, fellows will complete a personal project related to an education policy issue they are passionate about.

Qualifications

Teachers with the following qualifications and characteristics are eligible for the Houston Policy Fellowship:

Current Houston-area teacher of record (PK-12)
2+ years of experience by July 2026
Track record of success teaching students
Committed to staying in a student-facing role throughout the fellowship year
Passionate about sharing their classroom experience and policy knowledge on behalf of Houston-area teachers and students
All Teach Plus Texas program alums are encouraged to apply

Application Process

Part 1- Written Application

Complete and submit a written application.

Part 2- Interview

Candidates who advance to Phase 2 will be scheduled for a 30-minute interview at a time convenient for them.

Part 3- Final Status Notifications

All candidates will receive notification of their final status by June 2026.
